Mother Of The Road

Mother Of The Road
By Paul McCann

Mother of the road
I walked for miles in the rain ,
the sun would not shine
and I had things on my mind ,
like a pilgrim on the road
looking for answers I’d had enough of the users
and the chancers ,
I didn’t know where else to go
or what to do
then I had a vision of you
dressed up in blue .

Mother of the road
I know I’ll always have you
to show me the way
and instruct me what to do .
I have been many years
on this journey through life
and I’ve been an innocent victim
more than twice ,
by those who I loved most
and I don’t understand
but I’m walking on
and I know you have my hand .

Mother of the road
every day and every night,
the way is hard
and the end is never in sight .
At every bend and every twist
I know you’re there
Mother of the road
I ask you to hear my prayer
for love is the reason
that I have met you here .
Heal the hurt I have
and take away all my fear .

Mother of the road
straight and narrow is the way that takes me to heaven
at the end of the day . I have a vision
and that I will hold on to until I am home at last
in heaven with you where the cares and worries
of this world are no more in a forever
where I won’t hurt anymore .

Mother of the road
I will always walk with you and talk with you
for you are all that is true but each day there is no
tomorrow just today ,
and I don’t know what I’d do
if you went away so stay here by my side
until the end of time and bring me hope in each step
and real peace of mind .

Mother of the road
I walk upwards and onwards with no sign there to show me
which way is towards heaven but with faith as my guide
I see it in my eye
and I think of a place
where we will never die
and I will be there with you
when this life is through ,
dear Mother of the road
I will always love you .
